On 5 June, the IT House informed that China Mobile Hong Kong (CMHK) announced an announcement tonight confirming that the 2G network service would be fully terminated from 23 June 2026, after the company had ceased 3G operations at the end of June 2025.
According to the bulletin, the CMHK network will no longer support 2G/3G operations as of 23 June 2026. To ensure that communication services such as telephones, text messaging and Internet access are not affected, users currently registered under the CMHK network are required to confirm that the “Internet access” and “VoLTE” functions are functioning normally.
The IT House reminds Chinese mobile visitors to Hong Kong to visit the Qado, the Weekly Suite or the Daily Package, of the recommendation to apply for an international and Hong Kong/Australian roaming service in advance in order to avoid interruptions in overseas communications services.
This readjustment of the network took place in the context of a continuing decline in market demand for 2G services in Hong Kong. Data show that, as of November 2025, China ' s 2G stock users in mobile Hong Kong accounted for less than 2.3 per cent of its total mobile clients. Previously, on 30 September 2021, the first stop was made for 2G services, followed by the closure of digital telecommunications on 14 October 2022 and the withdrawal of Hong Kong Telecommunications (HKT) on 8 November 2024. China moved Hong Kong as the last telecommunications operator in the Hong Kong region to maintain 2G operations, and its withdrawal meant that the 2G era in Hong Kong would be completely over.
