On 1 June, Wang Xiu, Deputy Secretary-General and Director of the Regional Commission for the Development of Economic Technology in Beijing, convened a symposium on space computing enterprises to hear the views of the companies concerned on how Beijing could build a space computing industry high ground, and to study the deployment of space computing innovation centres. The entrepreneurs agreed that space computing was a new track for the integration of commercial space and the digital economy and had emerged as a new frontier for global science and technology competition, with significant strategic value and business prospects. The recent launch of the Beijing Academy of Space Intelligence and Computers in Beijing, an important step in the high-level construction of the Beijing Centre for Space Computing Innovation, is a key step in moving the space computing industry from a blueprint to a reality. Enterprises will be actively involved in the building of the Academy, taking advantage of their respective strengths in the areas of satellite manufacturing, computing chips, communications payloads, energy materials, software movement, precision devices and so forth. They will work together to address key common technological challenges such as satellite-borne radiation-resistant chips, inter-stellar laser communications, high-efficiency heat-control supply and so forth. They will accelerate the in-orbit validation and large-scale network of satellites, build a complete chain of innovation, industrial chain of the “Stellar + Terminal + Service” and contribute to the construction of an autonomous, secure and credible space-calcule technology and standard system that will contribute their wisdom and power to building a space- and network-based nation.
