The Dutch bank ABN AMRO makes it possible for children between 10 and 16 years old to pay with their smartphone. That is not possible with Apple Pay and Google Pay. Parents can turn the function on and off.
The function is part of ABN AMRO's youth brand BUUT and is called BUUT Pay. This works with its own payment system for iPhone and Android, the bank says. It works the same as with Google Pay and Apple Pay, namely with NFC for contacting a payment terminal and facial scan, fingerprint scanner or code for authentication. This is possible because apps can use the NFC chip for their own payment applications in addition to Apple Pay and Google Pay. The services of the big tech companies apply a minimum age of 16 years for payment services.
In the BUUT Wallet, young people can use the various pots of money they have separately for payments, so that money for gifts for Father's Day, for example, comes from a different pot than when paying for frikandel sandwiches in the supermarket. BUUT Pay with the BUUT Wallet is immediately available at the bank.
