It is reported that US states are planning to file a lawsuit to block Paramount's acquisition of Warner Bros.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta launched an investigation soon after the deal was announced.

Amid widespread opposition to Paramount's $110 billion takeover of Warner Bros., several US states are reportedly working together to fight the merger. According to Reuters, the states of California and New York are preparing lawsuits to block the deal.

The deal has faced scrutiny since it was announced in February after Paramount officially outbid Netflix in its bid to acquire Warner Bros. In particular, California Attorney General Rob Bonta said in a statement at the time, "Further consolidation of markets that are central to American economic life does not benefit our economy, consumers, or competition. In fact, market consolidation increases unaffordable costs, eliminates good-paying job opportunities, and reduces choice for consumers." Bonta added that the deal "should be subject to a full and robust review" and said the province was "committed to fighting market consolidation that we believe is unlawful."

We don't yet know what other states are joining the lawsuit along with California and New York. However, the lawsuit is expected to be filed in the coming weeks, according to Reuters sources.
