Amazon plans for a restart of the Stargate series

There were concerns that there would only be hardcore fans.

As Variety reported, Amazon's young Stargate series, announced last November, was dropped. The new show came up with Franchise fans and was led by Martin Gero, who worked at Stargate: Atlantis in the early 2000s. However, Amazon’s leaders are concerned that the new series would only appeal to inmeated Stargate fans and also lack broad appeal.

“Leider is true. Amazon has decided not to continue with the new Stargate series,” said the exporting producer Joseph Mallozzi

Amazon wanted to develop projects in the Stargate universe from 2022 when it acquired intellectual property with the purchase of MGM. It would have been useful to use the well-known franchise to expand its science fiction offering, as it currently has no hit in this genre like The Expanse, which ended in 2022.

There has never been anything known about the action of the new series and its adaptation to the Stargate timeline. Mallozzi said, however, that Gero has developed the series over two years and “has finally created a show that offers new spectators a new starting point while respecting the existing canon deeply.”

For the unveiled: The franchise revolves around the title-giving Stargates, transport equipment created by ancient aliens and acting as cross-alaxis wormholes. It started with a film from 1994 with James Spader and Kurt Russell, followed by the Stargate SG-1 series with Richard Dean Anderson. There were also four other TV shows and two direct-to-video films.
