5 June is World Environment Day, and our 2026 Environment Day is entitled “A comprehensive green transformation for a beautiful China”.

“Eco-civilization is built in modern times and in the long run.” The construction of a beautiful China is an important goal for the full construction of a modern socialist State and an important element for the realization of the great revival of the Chinese nation.

Since its eighteenth anniversary, the Party's centre, with Comrade Xi at its core, has made the construction of eco-civilization a fundamental factor for the sustainable development of the Chinese nation in its relations. It has made a major contribution to the theoretical, practical and institutional innovations of eco-civilization, and has creatively proposed a new set of new ideas and strategies that have shaped Xi-Ping's ecological civilization.

Guided by Xi ' s philosophy of ecological civilization, our green and low-carbon development has taken a solid step, with a marked improvement in the quality of our ecological environment, with hundreds of millions of people working together to build a beautiful home of green and sky-blue water, and to write a survey of the era of building a beautiful China.

A good ecological environment is the most equitable public good and the most inclusive of all. The Secretary-General of Xi stated that the construction of eco-civilization is the best way to provide a sense of access, an improved environment and the best experience.

Since the beginning of the new era, the Party's central government has pursued the construction of eco-civilization with unprecedented force — the 18th Congress of the Party has incorporated ecological civilization-building into the general layout of China's special socialism “Five Ones”; the 18th General Assembly of the Party has put forward a new concept of development, and green development has become one of the issues that drives high-quality development; the 19th Report of the Party has included beautiful China in the goals of the socialist modern and powerful State; and the 20th Report of the Party has emphasized that China's modernization is the modernization of human-natural harmony.

Since the new era, a series of legal systems have been in force to protect beautiful China — two programmatic documents have been issued: Opinions on Accelerating the Development of Eco-Civilization and the General Programme for the Reform of the System of Eco-Civilization; the “four pillars” of the reform of the system of ecological civilization have been put in place; the system of river and lake longness, forest longness, ecological damage and ecological and environmental protection has come into effect; and the legal regime in the field of the ecological environment has evolved over time, and several laws and regulations have been amended, a code of ecological and environmental law has been prepared, and the foundations of the rule of law built by beautiful China have been strengthened.

Since the beginning of the new era, various sectors have been effectively improving the quality of the ecological environment through a series of initiatives — the power of hair, the reduction of the pollution of dispersed coal and the accelerated phase-out of backward production capacity through clean heating; the filling of slabs, the rapid advance of the construction of urban sewage networks and the continued strengthening of the capacity to treat sewage; and the upgrading of quality, the overall enhancement of the construction of “free cities” and the deepening of rural habitat management.

It didn't have to happen.

At the Central City Work Conference in 2025, General Secretary Xi said: “The blue sky became the norm, and the `APEC Blue' that I announced to the world at the Beijing APEC Conference was achieved without words”. From APEC Blue to Winter Orchid to Normal Blue, the effectiveness of atmospheric pollution management in Beijing has been hailed by the United Nations Environment Programme as the “Beijing Miracle”.

Not just Beijing. Look at the country, the blue sky clouds have become normal. In 2025, PM2.5 was reduced to 28 μg/m3 nationwide, with 89.3 per cent of good days, the best since monitoring.

During the “1455” period, the rate of sewage management in rural areas doubled from the end of the “1355”, with over 18,000 “port parks” built, 25,000 kilometres of urban green lanes and over 43 per cent of the greening coverage of urban areas.

Today, the ecological situation in the country is improving and is on the right track, and the sky-blue and green water has become the norm, and the people ' s sense of ecological well-being, well-being and security has increased.

“Green in the sand”, the country is much greener. In the Takrama dry desert, there is a “green ring” in which the old savannah is re-emerging, and the Yellow River, “a few words”, gradually displays a beautiful picture of the “Oasis of the Golden Sand Sea”. During the “1455” period, my country completed the greening of 36.6 million hectares and the ecological conservation and rehabilitation of more than 5.4 million hectares, one of the few countries with a net increase in mangrove area worldwide.

“Red Line Guardian”, overall protection of natural ecological space. The implementation of ecological compensations, the development of industries such as ecotourism and health care, and the development of special eco-agricultural products....................................................to explore the green development path of institutions, eco-Americans, industrialists and people's wealth, to widen the path of green water and green mountains to silver mountains, to truly transform “good ecology” into “gold jobs” and to transform ecological “face” into “values”.

“Green background for high-quality development”

With the emergence of new energy vehicles, the decommissioning of power cells is imminent. The Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bangpo Cycle Technology Co. Ltd. in Guangdong said that “battery recycling should be refined, nuanced and long-term, and green development should be sustained and promote high-quality development in the circular economy”.

The establishment of a sound green, low-carbon cycle development economic system and the promotion of a comprehensive green transformation of economic and social development are the solutions to our ecological problems.

Today, while the Yangtze economy has improved its water quality, the region ' s gross domestic product has more than doubled, from 42.2 per cent to 47.3 per cent of the country ' s gross domestic product (GDP).

There has been a marked increase in the number of new and emerging industry projects, with the cumulative cultivation of more than 8,000 green plants and 600 green industrial parks in the country; the construction of the world ' s largest clean power supply system and clean iron and steel production system, with green electricity at one point per three degrees of electricity consumed by society as a whole; a significant increase in the market penetration of new energy vehicles, with a significant increase in the sales of new energy weight cards; and the creation of the largest carbon-emission trading market on a global scale, with a steady start and smooth operation of the national market for voluntary greenhouse gas emission reduction trading.
