Apple now requires an age verification for using the App Store in Texas
The National Act on App Use by Minors enters into force tomorrow.
We continue to see the impact of the wave of age-examination laws adopted last year by the governments of the US states. Apple today announced that Texas distributed apps must comply with the requirements of the SB 2420 state law. MacRumors first noticed the change that comes into force tomorrow for all apps distributed in the state.
New Apple accounts in Texas are subject to SB 2420 and need to check their age. A parent or guardian must give his consent if minor apps or essential updates of apps are downloaded and if they make in-app purchases. Developers also need to help parents or guardians revoke their consent to access at any time.
The Texas action was put into effect last May, although the planned entry into force on 1 January was delayed due to legal difficulties. Apple had already laid some foundations for how to deal with geographically bound requirements, and the company began in March with the introduction of age verification for iCloud accounts in the UK.
