Cinelux Sixteen, a hybrid camera prototype, is available for both Super 16 and digital video.

According to information from IT House on 6 June, PetraPixel yesterday reported that Cinelux had launched a prototype of a new hybrid film camera, Cinelux Sixteen.
This is a real Super 16 film camera, but it also has a digital sensor in 3K Super 16 format, which can be recorded in the CFexpress Type B storage medium at the same time and supports codecs of various industry standards.
Cinelux indicates that high-quality digital video files are immediately available for filming. “The production of film no longer impedes the momentum of production demand by adding real digital film outputs to the delivery of film.”
Photographic opportunities are known to be exposed twice during each rotation of the express door. In one case, it was exposed to internal analogue media via film doors. The other one goes into digital film sensors.
To ensure that digital files are useful and can indicate the final appearance of the film, Cinelux is developing real-time film simulation techniques. The company indicated that its colour science and image-processing technology could provide “as real as possible” access to surveillance. The company has worked with colorers and film photographers to provide very accurate digital signals that reflect the film characteristics used.
Although Cinelux Sixteen is still in the prototype stage, it has finalized most of its specifications. The camera will be equipped with a 13.35 x 7.42 mm image sensor to record Cinelux Raw, Cinema DNG and ProRes 444 HQ formats.
The price of this product has not yet been officially published, and Cinelux indicates that the camera will be “lower than a second-hand Arriflex 416”. This leaves a very broad range, as the price of second-hand Ariflex 416 cameras usually ranges from US$ 65,000 to US$ 90,000 (IT House Note: The current exchange rate is about RMB 442,000 to RMB 611,000), depending on the match, accessories and additional components.
