FromSoftware and Bandai Namco will release Elden Ring Tarnished Edition for Nintendo Switch 2 on August 28. This version consists of the base game and the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, but also introduces new content, which will also be available to Elden Ring players on all other platforms. It is not clear what the content will cost.
According to FromSoftware, the Tarnished Edition introduces some additions, including two new starting classes, new armor and weapons, and the ability to customize the Torrent. This is standard with the Switch 2 version, but is DLC for all other versions, so for the PlayStation 4 and 5, XBOX One, Series X and S, and the PC. The Switch 2 edition was originally scheduled to release in 2025, but was postponed.
Elden Ring was originally released in 2022 and is called a soulslike, a game that uses the Dark Souls style. That's because the games have the same creator, Hidetaka Miyazaki. He collaborated with Game of Thrones writer George R. R. Martin to develop the world and story of Elden Ring.
In the action RPG, players develop a character and must fight a variety of enemies and extreme bosses. Elden Ring was showered with awards and very positive reviews around its release. The only expansion Shadow of the Erdtree also received very positive reviews. FromSoftware is also working on an exclusive game for the Switch 2.
