Ex-Forza Horizon developers unveil open-world racing game Clutch

Maverick Games has unveiled its first game Clutch. It is an open world racing game with legal races and illegal street races, and 'underworld jobs'. The game features multiple licensed car brands and extensive customization options.

Maverick unveiled Clutch on Tuesday with a video, in which the studio shared several details of the game. The game revolves around a brother and sister who want to race in the fictional R1K racing series. Players can also race with the Midnight Collective's illegal street races. The game therefore seems to be a kind of combination of the Forza Horizon and the Midnight Club series.

Also a touch of TDU and NFS

There is also a touch of Test Drive Unlimited and Need for Speed to this, because players can extensively customize their cars with factory options and aftermarket parts, Maverick says in the video. For example, players can choose different bumpers, hoods, rims, steering wheels and seats. Neon and nitro will also be possible in Clutch, as well as 'details' in the car itself, such as a cup of coffee or a sweater lying on a chair.

In addition to racing, players can also perform 'jobs for the underworld'. Maverick doesn't provide many details about this yet, but does talk about 'high speed getaways'. In addition, players can use the Clutch Tech mods, with Maverick showing a kind of hook that can be fired at lampposts to rotate around lampposts.

Ex-Forza Horizon developers

Clutch has been in development for 3.5 years and runs on a modified version of the Unreal Engine 5. Maverick was founded in 2023 by six former Playground Games developers. Playground is known for the Forza Horizon games. Maverick was founded shortly after Horizon 5. A year later it was announced that Amazon would publish the game, although this company is no longer mentioned.

Several car brands have licensed Clutch to use their cars in the game. Porsche, Aston Martin, Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Nissan, BMW, Renault, Lotus and Land Rover are featured in the trailer. Maverick will share another trailer during the Summer Game Fest on June 5, revealing the location. A release date has not yet been announced. According to previous reports, the game will come to PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series, although this is not being repeated now.
