According to the news from IT House on June 5, Xinhua today, the 2026 World Cup of America and the United States of America is on the way, and FIFA’s ticketing system has come up with a laughable owl.

On 3 June, local time, the FIFA official ticketing website suffered a technical malfunction in the ticket-buying and closing chain, leading to the unexpected success of about 60 fans in obtaining World Cup tickets at a price of US$0; however, this “good luck” did not last long.

FIFA confirmed that this technical problem occurred on 3 June in the course of the billing process. As a result of the poor processing of the payment system, some fans received confirmation notices at a price of “0 US dollars” after completing the ticket purchase exercise, claiming that they had received tickets “free of charge”.

“FIFA can confirm that about 60 2026 World Cup fans were notified on 3 June that their applications were distributed free of charge because of payment problems in the process.” IT House noted that the tickets were reserved for the group phase in Toronto, Canada.

Despite the system's flaws, 60 fans' bookings were not cancelled directly. FIFA states that the tickets requested by the affected fans are still in the system, but the fans are required to pay the actual tickets purchased within seven days, otherwise the reservation will be cancelled and the related tickets removed from the accounts.

In his statement, FIFA also apologizes to the affected fans: “FIFA deeply apologizes for this error and for any inconvenience caused by it.”
