Florida suit. OpenAI And Sam Altman is suspected of "exploitation."
According to reports, a mass shooting killer at Florida State University consulted. ChatGPT To plan the attack.
According to NBC News, the Attorney General of Florida has indicted OpenAI and its Chief Executive Sam Altman. The lawsuit accused the company of marketing products that it knew might harm the user. The petition states that “OpenAI's rise is due to the exploitation of networks of deception and users, including Floridans, who use their data and security to increase the market value of OpenAI at an unacceptable cost”.
Civil proceedings sought punishment and court orders rather than criminal charges. According to Attorney General James Uthmeier, the action was “aimed to hold Altman personally responsible for the reckless and deliberate actions of him as founder and chief executive officer of OpenAI, including his total disregard for the risks to human life posed by the actions of his company and the harm done to the people of Florida”. A few months ago, it did open a criminal investigation into the company, which is still under way.

Today ' s lawsuit charges OpenAI with four counts of fraudulent and unfair trade, two counts of negligence, two counts of violation of product liability law and one count of fraudulent misrepresentation and public disturbance. The lawsuit also claimed that the company's system posed “a great danger to users of addiction, reduced cognitive ability, suicide, violence and related harm”.
OpenAI has not yet responded to the proceedings, but has stated in the past that its design of a system “is safe at every step” and that “there are appropriate protections to help people, especially adolescents, when the dialogue becomes sensitive”. The company also indicated that its system was trained to “mitigate dialogue and guide people to support the real world”.
Unfortunately, events in the real world show that this is not the case. The complaint refers to several recent cases involving ChatGPT Violence. Last year, a large-scale shooting attack on Florida State University allegedly resulted in two deaths and at least six injuries following discussions with ChatGPT.
These allegations indicate that the gunmen received advice on what to use and how to get media attention from chat robots. OpenAI states that it “is not responsible for this terrible crime” and that chat robots merely “provide factual answers to the question and the information provided is widely available in public resources on the Internet”.
In addition, two students of the University of South Florida were shot dead earlier this year. Alleged gunmen reportedly also contacted ChatGPT during the planning phase. One of the procedural documents showed that he had received information on how to hide the body from the chat robot.
These are the big Florida cases, but similar developments are taking place around the world. In February this year, there were massive shootings in British Columbia, killing eight people, including children, and wounding dozens. Alleged gunmen reportedly also frequently contacted ChatGPT, which in fact marked the account as “gun violence and planning”. However, OpenAI did not alert the authorities but simply suspended the account. According to another recent lawsuit, the alleged shooter created a second personal profile and continued his dialogue.
There were also several cases of ChatGPT allegedly assisting people in planning suicides. In sum, OpenAI faces at least eight cases of mass violence or self-harm.
Today's Florida lawsuits even require OpenAI and ChatGPT to solve many of our daily problems in generating artificial intelligence. The lawsuit stated that the company's advertising of the software could help farmers and other small businesses, but that “the failure to disclose that ChatGPT may be wrong, may make mistakes, or may provide false, meaningless or hallucinating information”.
The suit reads: “ChatGPT's unreliability is dangerous.” Finally, the language criticized ChatGPT ' s notorious pompous tendency and claimed that it was an open strategy to increase user participation. According to the complaint, this practice “has led to greater use of chat robots, more training data for improvement and more market value for OpenAI”.
