Funcom talks about Dune: Awakening is not available online: know what players want and we want

"We know that players want to cross-platform online. So do we."

According to information from IT House this week, Funcom announced that Sand dunes: Awakening will land on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in September, while confirming that the upcoming single-person model will also be available on all platforms on the same day. However, no cross-platform on-line will be added to the release of the mainframe version.

In its statement, Funcom said, “We will go further in the upcoming live broadcast, but in the end, we know that players want to cross-platform online. So do we. However, achieving cross-platform on-line in Dune: Awakening is technically and operationally complex and requires resources. We are now concentrating these resources on the mainframe port and the September update, in the hope of making them the best.”

This means that in most cases, the player can only play with the player on the same platform. The only exception is the Xbox version, which Xbox players can share with Windows PC Shop Player Online.

The September update was an important node for Sand dunes: Awakening. The game was previously exclusive to the PC, and with this update, the first major narrative chapter of Dune: Awakening will be completed on all platforms, so that the host player who joined in September can directly experience more complete game content.

Funcom states that more on-line information across the platform will be made available on live broadcast by subsequent developers, but the time of live broadcast has not yet been determined.
