Gemini now thinks deeper (and for free)

Authors

Last month, Google unveiled its newest language model, Gemini 3.5 Flash. It complements the already existing 3.1 versions by promising higher performance and efficiency than Gemini 3.1 Pro for your everyday queries.

To improve accuracy and reliability, Google has even added a “Reflection Levels” option to give Gemini 3.5 Flash time to think longer. Until now, this option was reserved for paid Gemini and Google Workspace subscribers. It is already open to all LLM users, including the free plan.

Gemini thinks more in one click

Gemini 3.5 Flash therefore offers two thinking modes: a Standard option, for basic questions, and an Extended option, for more complex problems. You can now select this second option in the “Reflection level” menu which is now displayed below the list of different models.

Extended mode allows you to give Gemini more time to answer your questions, with more in-depth reasoning to minimize the risk of hallucinations and incorrect answers.

You will logically have to be more patient if you choose this option, but also more economical because it will unsurprisingly be much more intensive in tokens. You can now use it on the web or on mobile via dedicated applications, we have seen the option land on our various devices.
