Google is rolling out an update for its Google Photos application on Android. This change modifies the management and access to personalized stickers created by users directly from their photos.
A centralized hub within the Collections tab
In February 2026, Google activated a feature allowing you to generate personalized stickers on Android by a simple long-press gesture on an element of an image. These cut items can then be shared across networks or messaging apps.
Until now, users had to recreate these stickers or search for them in menus, because the application did not offer centralized storage.
Now, a folder called “Stickers” is automatically generated in the Collections tab of Google Photos. This folder is positioned just after the “Places” card. The creations are organized in the form of a grid from the most recent to the oldest.
By tapping a sticker in this grid, a preview panel opens at the bottom of the screen. This menu offers commands to copy the sticker — which activates a preview in a corner to use the system sharing menu — or to delete it.
Technical catch-up with iOS
This update allows Android to catch up with iOS. iPhone users have been able to create stickers via Google Photos since August 2025, while the dedicated backup folder appeared on the Apple system in January 2026. Android therefore showed a lag of almost six months on this functionality.
The update comes bundled with version 7.78 of the Google Photos app for Android. The deployment is taking place gradually on the Google Play Store depending on regions and devices. For the moment, France is not yet served, it seems. I tried on a Galaxy S26 Plus and a Xiaomi 17T, without success.
