This function is only effective when you and a trusted contact use the Google phone, because the contact's device sends a “silent confirmation signal” to verify that the call is actually from your friend or family. Google states that if the fraudster tries to cheat your contact number, “the initial confirmation signal will be lost”. It stated that it built this feature on the end-to-end encryption of the Communications Enrichment Service (RCS) technology to allow other applications to use it.
