GTA 5: popular cheat tool hacked, data of 64,000 users in the wild

While everyone is waiting for GTA 6, its predecessor GTA 5 released in 2013 is still very popular. Because they know it by heart and are looking for a different experience, or simply to gain the upper hand over other players, some do not hesitate to use cheating tools. Have infinite money, unlock objects... The possibilities are numerous.

Rockstar Games may struggle to make this type of program disappear, but there are some that still resist. Among them, Atlas Menu, which offers cheating in GTA 5 or Counter Strike 2 for money. It has around 64,000 users (63,926 exactly) — a number that leaked because its data was hacked, as revealed by The Register and confirmed by the Have I Been Pwned notification service.

Atlas Menu is also known to bypass BattlEye, the anti-cheat used by Rockstar on GTA Online, which explains its popularity despite the publisher's constant hounding. The service also claimed “secure authentication and reinforced confidentiality thanks to advanced encryption techniques” – a promise which takes a serious blow with this leak.

Victim of a cyberattack, the Atlas Menu database is made public

No need to dig into the darkest corners of the Dark Web to find the stolen information, it is publicly accessible on the GitHub site. In detail, we find:

- Username

- E-mail address

- IP address

- Passwords stored as bcrypt hashes

If we are to believe the description of the dedicated GitHub page, the hacker acted to denounce the supposed espionage of Atlas Menu. The program would take screenshots without users' permission. A link to the Imgur hosting site serves as proof, but on our side it leads to an empty page.

Atlas Menu has not responded at this stage. In the meantime, it is advisable to change the password associated with the platform, and, if it is used for other accounts, to change it on these as well.
