Guild Wars 3 will be released next year and is an mmorpg set on Tyria

There's a new Guild Wars game coming. Guild Wars 3 was announced on Friday evening during Summer Game Fest, although little is known about the game other than that it will be another mmorpg set in Tyria.

Developer ArenaNet announced the game during Summer Game Fest. It is the first new, full-fledged Guild Wars game since 2012. Then Guild Wars 2 was released, although it had six expansions. Guild Wars 3 is not an expansion, but a fully-fledged new part.

Few details about the game are known yet. An announcement trailer shows that the game is set in the fantasy world Tyria, but that is also the most that is known about the game. The developer calls it "a modern evolution of the mmo genre," but doesn't really explain what that means. Furthermore, according to ArenaNet, players can fly around on a Seeker, a kind of ghost. In the game, players join the Vaelwardens, a guild that must protect the lands of Orr.

It is clear that a first beta of the game should be released in the fall of 2027. The game will also be released for the PlayStation 5
