Homey makes app to control smart home even easier via ChatGPT

Authors

Homey is releasing its own ChatGPT integration that allows users to control their smart home via the AI service of OpenAI. This was already possible manually via a Model Context Protocol server (MCP), but according to the manufacturer it can be done without manual configuration.

Users can control their smart home via the ChatGPT app, check device status, start Flows, rename devices and link them to specific zones.

In addition, the user can use natural language to ask whether the AI service creates or updates an automated process. Users can also set up these advanced Flow automations themselves, but ChatGPT should be able to automatically provision Flows out of context.

According to Homey, the new feature is intended for users who want to integrate the AI tool as an agent into their smart home system, but do so without manual setup of an MCP server. The feature builds on the AI smart home integration introduced in late 2025. Before that, users had to manually set up connections via developer mode.
