There will be a sequel to the interactive story game Until Dawn. This is not set, like the original, in a dark, cold mountain area, but in a sun-drenched tropical island. It remains a horror/thriller, but with a new location and a completely new cast.
Sony and developer Firesprite announced Until Dawn 2 during a State of Play event on Tuesday. Firesprite is not the developer of the original. That was made by Supermassive Games. Firesprite previously made the Horizon spin-off Call of the Mountain, among others.
Until Dawn 2, like the original, is a narrative game in which players must make choices that significantly influence a story. The original was distinguished, among other things, by the consequences of those choices; players could either have characters die or live early depending on what choices they made. These choices resulted in different storylines.
Until Dawn 2 is also a horror-slash thriller game in which "intrigue, emotion, twists and choices will keep players awake at night," Sony writes. The game revolves around a group of ghost hunters who appear to be heading to a tropical island. That is a completely different atmosphere than the original, which was set in a classic horror scenario with an abandoned mountain hut and snowy nights. Sony also says that the relationships between characters will be an important game element.
Until Dawn 2 will be released 'in 2027', Sony says, but the company does not mention a more concrete date. The original started as an exclusive for the PlayStation, but was later also released for the PC as a remaster.
