“I want to talk to my PC! I want an R2-D2! »: Nvidia is already looking (very) far with its new RTX Spark chip

Authors

Nvidia's plans with its RTX Spark architecture are becoming clearer. Its chip, designed with MediaTek and optimized for Windows with help from Microsoft, is just the beginning for the AI giant. Jensen Huang, founder and president of Nvidia, has responded to questions from journalists and industry analysts in recent days.

He recently affirmed that Nvidia was not closed to developing versions of its chip for a possible portable console. The platform is only in its infancy, however, confirmed Huang, who then launched into a surge of lyrical anticipation of which only he has the secret.

N2X and N3X chips in the works

We suspected it but Nvidia has just confirmed it: other developments of the RTX Spark architecture are in the works according to Tom's Guide, which relays Jensen Huang's remarks to journalists in recent days:

The N2X and N3X models are already planned, and the N1X is called that because there is a smaller version, the N1. We will expand our range. We are going to extend this architecture over the very long term.

If the objective remains to offer a powerful and energy efficient platform, the long-term plan aims to democratize agentic AI on PC with the help of Microsoft. Jensen Huang revealed to journalists his wildest desires shared with Satya Nadella:

I want to be able to talk to my laptop! I want an R2-D2! Satya and I will walk up to our Windows PC and say “hello, do something”. It's like Scotty talking to that mouse. Do you see what I'm talking about? Star Trek. No ?

Talk to your computer, your vacuum cleaner

Remaining faithful to his speech of recent years, the emblematic founder of Nvidia assures that your “computer will become an AI” and that it will be possible to “talk to your vacuum cleaner” to tell it to go clean an area of the house. Currently it is possible to do this through Google Home applications or other home automation devices.

In this context, R2-D2 is an AI agent who will take care of finishing your work for you based on the context you give it. RTX Spark aims to run all these tasks locally, without the use of a cloud service. The user will then only be limited by the amount of integrated memory of their machine, in addition to the raw power of the chip.

These are just the beginnings of a small revolution according to Nvidia, which wants to dust off processor architectures on PCs with its platform.
