“It’s not a joke”: A “Simpsons” author is organising his first rally for the presidential election campaign

On a bright Friday afternoon, in a park overlooking the Silver Lake reservoir in Los Angeles, about 30 people — three of them wearing the clothes of Uncle Sam, Dasveder and Aisha in Ice Wonder — gathered to hear the first official campaign speech of Dan Grini, the presidential candidate for the 2028 United States presidential election.

“My fellow Americans,” Greeney stood before the podium and said that a line of American flags was flying in the breeze. And then he said, "Yes, let's do it. It's classic."

This lack of self-consciousness is what you expect from a senior television writer who started working on the Simpsons in the 1990s. In addition to the creation of classic dramas such as " Summer 4 foot2 " and " King-Size Homer " , Grini is also well known for the creation of " Bart to the Future " , a flash-in show that was first aired in 2000, in which Lisa Simpson, the new President of the United States, is fighting the financial difficulties left by his predecessor. “As you know, we inherited considerable budgetary constraints from President Trump”, she explained.

As a result of this joke, Greni is often thought to predict that real Trump is unlikely to enter the White House. “This is a warning to the United States”, he told Hollywood at the beginning of the 2016 election cycle. “This idea was put forward because it was in line with the American vision of going crazy.”

For several months, Grini has been leaning towards another self of his “Prophet”, who published his own video on Instagram, in which he kept his old-style gray beard with a wig and predicted the collapse of his allies. On Friday, however, he was wearing a more traditional suit and tie, like a politician running for office. His message is sincere.

"It's ridiculous for me to run for president," he said. “It's something that cartoon dad could do — a man like Peter Griffin,” he smiles and says, “The old man who's been at Home and not Homer Simpson. However, Grini went on to say that he was moved to defend the values he believed were still shared by most Americans. “I believe that democracy is being attacked and, in many respects, destroyed by a rogue Supreme Court, a lawless president and the billionaires that they work,” he said to the crowds, which are mainly made up of friends and colleagues from the entertainment industry.

“This is not a joke,” Greeney, referring to his campaign, said that, despite his long career in the field of comedy, he dates back to his tenure as director of Harvard Ironic. (He has also worked as a journalist and in the legal profession. "The comedy wasn't just a laugh," he continued. “The comedy is about the truth. One of the things we all try to do in The Simpsons is to tell the truth about American life, to look behind lies and noise and to tell the truth about America in a way that people see and connect, with love and humor, which is what I want to do here.”

“So, yes, it's a little ridiculous, but it's not a joke,” he reiterates. "In fact, it's a act of conscience."

In conclusion, Grini said: “I invite all of you to join my movement to create an American, including Das Wade, who will serve all of us.”

As a progressive Republican who inherited the tradition of Abraham Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt, Grini proposed a programme that included a commitment to expand the number of Supreme Court judges to 13, while reforming the judiciary to limit its competence and investigate corruption among its members. He favoured universal health care, a green new deal and policies to increase access to affordable housing.

Grini also advocated constitutional amendments, the repeal of the Citizens' Union v. Federal Electoral Commission, the landmark decision of the Supreme Court, the lifting of restrictions on corporate political spending and the prosecution of any Trump campaign donations that might constitute an illegal buy-in of government influence. In his speech, he vowed to reject the funds of the Business Political Action Committee — “not to say that the funds are in influx,” he was funny.

Greeney was introduced by his campaign director, artist and writer Mieke Marple, and another student from the Simpson family, Brent Forester. Mapul encouraged participants to register for e-mail updates and to contribute to the event. "I promise we'll spend your money wisely," she said.

Maple told Wireless that she and Greeney had been friends for 15 years, partly because she had “some free time”.

"As an artist, I saw its potential for resonance," she said. “I know that Dan is concerned, sincere, and I am not afraid to do things that appear to be out of order, and to take it very seriously. Because in some ways I think that's what artists do, right? They take unexpected things very seriously, and then it touches people's hearts.”

Grini stated that the campaign was “well felt”, although he hoped that social media messages would lead to better voter turnout. He stressed that he was still studying the secret of the campaign. Grini plans to launch a podcast on his campaign, inviting politically experienced guests to advise him. Although much remains to be done, he remains dynamic. "I like the big swing," Grienny said. "I like big projects."

He stated that he looked forward to meeting new friends, including Republicans who had been alienated by “MAGA” extremism, who might not have heard too much “pity and compassion” from Democrats. “I don't really care where things go, and if people don't like me, people will look at me — it doesn't matter, anyway,” Griny said. "I can take it."

With optimism and continued confidence in the American cause, Greeney is a copywriter of the Simpson family, who created in the motto of Springfield town a fictional phrase: “the noble spirit makes the smallest great”, which does not seem to be a coincidence. Perhaps this emotion is more sincere than anyone is aware.
