After the Geo City Grip Vision launched at €150, Look is offering a new model half the price: the Geo City Vision, at €79.90. The principle remains the same as on these first pedals with integrated lights: place lighting where you place your feet, rather than on the seat post for example, or at the rear of the bike.
The strength of these pedals lies in the fact that the LEDs follow the pedaling foot, which creates a moving light point at ground level. Look estimates that this makes the rider up to 5.5 times more visible than with a fixed seat post light, and identifiable up to 900 meters away. This logic is based on the notion of “biomotion”: a motorist spots a moving light much more quickly.
What Geo City Vision offers
Each pedal incorporates a light block which is removable using a magnetic attachment, and recharges via USB-C in three hours. The lighting diffuses 360 degrees, with a power of between 3 and 42 lumens depending on the mode chosen. A “Start & Stop” system cuts off the light after 30 seconds of stopping, then reactivates it as soon as you start pedaling again.
Here are the main features announced:
- Four light modes: Power Steady, Steady, Night Flash and Day Flash
- Power from 3 to 42 lumens, 360 degree beam
- USB-C recharge in 3 hours, one-button control
- 100 x 103 mm tray, IPX7 waterproof rating
- 190 g per pedal, or 380 g per pair; the light block weighs 26 g
Small point of vigilance on the modes: the two flashing modes (Day Flash and Night Flash) do not comply with French regulations, which require fixed lighting for the position lights. Clearly, on public roads in France, we make do with fixed modes.
What changes compared to the old model
The big change is in recharging. On the Geo City Grip Vision, each pedal had two modules to remove, one at the front and one at the rear. Here, Look switches to a single block per pedal, with only one piece to unclip for recharging.
Another development, this one less flattering: Look has abandoned the Vibram non-slip coating that fitted the old model. The brand ensures that the 100 x 103 mm platform maintains good grip with all types of shoes, from soft-soled sneakers to hard-soled city shoes. This is partly what explains the price halved compared to the €150 of the first generation.
“With the launch of the Geo City Vision, we are responding to what is perhaps the biggest challenge for today’s urban cyclist: being visible where it really matters,” explains Alexandre Lavaud, Global Product Manager at Look, in the press release relayed by Velo 101.
The Geo City Vision are already available on the official website at the price of €79.90.
