'Meta AI app contains code for feature that can recognize faces via Meta glasses'

I'm going to quote myself about what I say about Google Glass.

When it comes to these types of technologies, I am one of the few die-hard IT people who would prefer to live in the 60s. When it comes to these types of technologies, I am one of the few die-hard IT people who would prefer to live in the 60s

Completely agree, I think Google Glass is another

Disruptive technology is, just like book printing technology, the steam engine and after that the combustion engine, telephony, Internet, mobile phones, all technologies that have completely changed our society.

There are certainly positive aspects of this technology, and I can imagine quite a few, but there are also major negative aspects.

Glass's first goal will probably be something like selling advertising based on

augmented reality, you walk through a shopping street, and suddenly you are presented with an advertisement, with an arrow to the store where you can buy it.

But in 10 years or so, in exchange for free internet, for example, you will leave your Glass on all day, and

IBM Watson-like servers will be able to analyze your behavior all the time, serve you 100% personal advertisements, and also manipulate you as much as possible to buy things whether you really need them or not.

And with Glass this can get really scary, for example consider the following scenario, because my nightmare scenario is this:

Because the masses do not realize that there is a big difference when someone approaches you on the street with: "Good day sir, do you have some time to talk about xxxxx" or "Good day Mr Jansen, we have a new product, a savings policy for small children, if they want to study later, by starting early the deposit is very low..."

The salesperson sees your name via facial recognition, and if someone calls you by name, it is harder to ignore, and at the same time he retrieves from the database that you just have a few months old baby, and the system advises him to start talking about that.

That is completely different from being in your own environment at home, and it is not strange if a stranger addresses you by your name, but it is a lot easier to close the door, ''because you are busy with dinner'' or ''sorry, someone is on the phone''. This is more difficult on the street, as you are less in your own safe environment, especially if you have a devious salesman in front of you who works on a commission basis.

So this is for a (street) seller of a company who has access to a sea of private information, and from the first moment you are at a disadvantage, if you are approached in a personal capacity, where you had previously said sorry, not interested.

For example, they try to sell you a savings policy for children, because you have just had a little one, how can you defend against that, if the other party has all the information, and knows and is trained in how and where they can best respond to your feelings, if they can call up all that information directly via a database, without you really noticing.

And that is easy to do by combining two existing techniques, something like Glass and a neural interface incorporated into a baseball cap or something, one or two days of practice is enough to be able to scroll through a database menu via a question and answer system, just like telemarketers do, only it is now even more difficult to get away from those people, as there is a huge difference between hanging up the phone and someone standing in front of you and speaking to you personally.

In addition, additional programs can be used that measure micro movements and physical reactions, which can be used not only to recognize whether someone is lying, negative, but also when they are positive and can push through.

That system could even provide advice on what next question one could/should ask, based on body language and micro reactions.

And such a system no longer has to be large, you can easily connect such a system via your smartphone to a server that does the heavier work.

But it will also change our society in other ways, for example how Glass actually works, you can use it to record everything you want in your environment, and in 10 years children will also be walking around with it, just like what happened with cell phones.

Because suppose that in 5~10 years all children/young people actually wear something like Google Glass, and child X tells child Y that he/she is in love with him/her.

This is a very private thing, with Google Glass, if Y doesn't feel the same, something like this can and certainly will be made public on a regular basis, and bullying that is already a problem will be taken to a whole new level.

And this is just an example, cameras also bring out the worst in people, reality shows are a good example of that, and I'm not waiting for my personal life to become a reality show.

And sorry to call the people naive who think this is not realistic, no offense intended, but everything I describe is already perfectly possible, and is about to be used in practice, and can go much scarier and further.

Camera recognizes your face, determines from the database that you are a possible good customer, based on various criteria, such as address, education, hobbies and interests, etc. etc.

A lot of data from various institutions and companies is traded without your knowledge. Based on this, if you have enough information, a server can create an excellent profile within a second to best address you.

This is nothing special, 15 years ago my sister had a predecessor of this at work, a system that the computer recognized the caller based on the number, and then spoke to people personally by name, after which she immediately used her own or colleague notes to indicate if people were likely to call back, "Good day Mr. Jansen, are you calling about *****, is that now resolved or can we help you further?"

This system did two things, it sped up the process of helping customers, but also made them feel special and valued customers.

The only luck we have is that a database of usable photos for facial recognition is not yet widely distributed, but with services like Facebook and Google+ it is entirely possible that this will no longer be the case if they start selling your face along with your name.

I am not really negative about the Glass technology per se, but I am if there is very good legal protection against the above scenarios.

Because if there is no legal protection, these companies will certainly do that, as it is simply worth a lot of money.

With the advent of this predictable technology, I think it might be time for a T-net article about the privacy side of this new technology.
