Metamorphology a tactics of Tesla and builds data centers in tents

Just when you thought the AI data center boom could not be even more crazy, Metamorphology started and built data centers in tents. The strategy seems to be equal parts of Tesla and xAI.

In order to halve the construction time, Meta built outside New Albany, Ohio, six tents – or “Rapid Deployment Structures”, as the company calls them – according to Michael Thomas, founder of Cleanview, who pursues the use of data centers.

Thomas's findings are not entirely new. Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, spoke last year with The Information about his plan to accommodate the company's multi-gigawatt data centers in weatherproof tents.

But Thomas’ pictures and the review of local permits show the construction speed and the scope of the project. According to Thomas's approvals, Meta started building five 125,000 square meters of tents between April and June. The satellite images that he shared in his contribution to X show that all the buildings were built.

The use of tents recalls the tents that Tesla built in the parking lot of his factory in Fremont, California, when the company rushed with the introduction of model 3. The location is also driven by 200 megawatts of modular gas turbines nearby, a tactic made popular by the competitor xAI.

In the tents, AI chips, which are probably worth billions of dollars, will work.

The tents have risen as Meta had difficulty making his AI models available to the developers. A recent report in the Wall Street Journal revealed that Meta's latest model, Muse Spark, is finished, APIs, to which developers are required to access it, but has been repeatedly delayed.

Meta has announced to spend up to $ 145 billion on data centers and other investment spending. Wall Street didn't like that, because the meta-actie recorded 5% this year. The installation of AI chips in tents is a way to reduce costs.
