Microsoft would add a button to remove AIs in Windows 11

Authors

Microsoft continues to work on a more transparent version of Windows 11. The latest version of Windows 11 (build 26300.8553) dedicated to members of the Insider program suggests a new setting dedicated to AI components installed on the PC. On this interface, users could know the details of different installed AI models, but they could also delete some of them.

Clear use

This new feature should provide more clarity to users. According to tests carried out by Pureinfotech, this new page details the name of the installed models as well as their respective functions. Users will be able to find information such as the version number, the size of the LLM but also the space it occupies.

In some models like Phi Silica, designed to optimize the performance of Windows Copilot+ PCs, users can access an uninstall function. It remains to be seen whether this option will eventually be offered on other models.

Although it cannot yet be activated, this functionality reflects Microsoft's desire to offer more transparency to its users. A welcome approach as the firm still seems to doubt the strategy to put in place around Copilot.
