Microsoft XBox CEO Sharma talks about why Copilot hosts: Players are not interested

Microsoft has been trying to be a Copilot AI assistant in the game. Two years ago, Microsoft demonstrated the idea that when a player plays, Copilot can talk directly to a player. Last year, Microsoft further announced that Copilot for Gaming would be taken to the XBOX mainframe. Microsoft then called Copilot for Gaming an AI-driven partner, the goal of which was "to be your personal game partner."

In an interview with Bloomberg, Sharma was asked how Microsoft CEO Satya Nadra saw this decision. Sharma states that XBOX is still exploring the use of AI in game development, but not all AI forms are valuable to the player, and not all AI experiences will be welcomed by the player. The value of AI is clearer for images, such as technology such as Yvette DLSS and AMD FSR, but it is not clear what a player can gain by using AI as a game assistant.

Sharma explained: “One of the first commitments I made was the future of the game. I said, "We'll think very carefully about how to launch AI." 'My job is to think where we invest, what we prioritize and how we operate. Our host players are not excited about the experience on the mainframe. Well, do I believe in AI? Of course. I think nerve replicating is a great opportunity for us to invest. Neural retrofit helps to overscore and reduce end-use of equipment and gives players better images. AI can do a lot of things. But I think if we're going to use AI in the game, we have to make sure AI solves a problem. So I took that decision.”

When asked whether Satya Nadra approved the decision, Sharma replied: “This is the decision of XBOX. He gave me space to make the best decisions for the player."

According to the IT house, Nadra had previously emphasized that Microsoft planned to integrate Copilot into all products.
