Nintendo will launch a replacement battery in the EU.
The company has confirmed that it is in the process of producing a Switch 2 version that meets EU standards.
Nintendo has confirmed that a Switch 2 version with a replacement battery will be released in 2027. In its announcement of plans to comply with the EU Directive, the company indicated that it was “implementing compliance measures” and “preparating product versions” to meet the EU “maintenance rights” policy of 2023. Starting on 18 February 2027, it is stipulated that “certain electrical” batteries sold in the EU must be easily replaced by the user at any time.
Although the company did not indicate directly that it was in the process of developing a version of Switch 2 that met European Union standards, it wrote in its bulletin that it was developing a “Future Compatible Version” product with the model starting with “BEE”. This is Switch 2 and its hardware, games and accessories prefix. A player equipped with a replacement battery will have the only type and visible code “OSM” on the packaging. For regulatory purposes, they will be sold as separate products, which may mean that Nintendo will not sell them outside the region.
Nintendo did not mention any of the products in question as “HAC”, indicating that it had no plans to release the Switch 1 game. It is not surprising that the company is probably phasing out old games. The company released Switch 2 in 2025, and it has a bigger screen, a larger basic storage space and a significantly better performance than the first generation.
The company has not yet revealed when it will start selling a new edition of Switch 2 and the sale price. In May this year, Nintendo raised its price in the EU from Euro470 to Euro500 due to increased memory costs and other “market conditions”.
