News from IT House, June 4, today, Omdia ' s latest edition of the Market Tracking Report on Televisions (Emerging Display Technologies) for the First Quarter of 2026 shows that, in the first quarter of 2026, global television deliveries increased by 6 per cent to 50.3 million, driven by retailers ' advance preparations for the forthcoming 2026 World Cup.
The report mentions that, with the exception of mainland China, all regions of the globe have experienced year-on-year growth. The mainland market in China was the only one that experienced a downturn following the continued weakness of local demand following the weakening of domestic stimulus in 2025.
In the first quarter of 2026, the two fastest growing regions were developing economies. Of these, Asia and Oceania increased by 13 per cent and Latin America by 12 per cent each year. Owing to weak domestic market demand, Chinese producers have exported more television products to these areas, which has led to local market growth.
North America has also achieved particularly strong export growth (11 per cent over the same period), although it is already a highly saturated market in itself. This growth has been driven by a combination of factors, especially in the United States market. As a co-sponsor of this year ' s World Cup, the United States market offers a clear opportunity for retailers to more actively promote television products. At the same time, competition among retailers remained intense. The most typical of these is Wal-Mart, whose strategic objective is to expand the ecological coverage of Vizio OS (on the Onn. and Vizio TV) and to make a profit through advertising-related income rather than relying solely on hardware sales.
From the report, IT House was informed that Omdia ' s latest database had begun tracking RGB LED television, and that the technology was initially expected to compete directly with OLED television, as both were located in high-end price zones. Although RGB television still accounts for a relatively small volume of 394,000 in the first quarter of 2026, it is expected to play an increasingly important role in 2026 and in the coming years. This growth will be driven by the introduction of relevant models by more producers, while RGB LED technologies are expected to be gradually extended to the middle-end television market, as is Mini LED technology.
The Omdia Television Research Manager, Matthew Rubin, said: “The Chinese market is leading in the adoption of RGB LED TV, but this is mainly due to the fact that TCL and Hyshin were the first to launch the relevant models, ahead of other international markets. As more aircraft are introduced before the World Cup, the output of this technology is expected to accelerate rapidly.”
