Review of various features such as USB tethering by connecting ad blocks and smartphones with all apps using AdGuard on the mobile router "Beryl 7"

I tried using a mobile router "Beryl 7" which can be used more safely with convenient transport & easy setting and public Wi-Fi - GIGAZINE

The following four functions are used.

・AdGuard Home does not require setting on the device

However, by setting up an advertisement blocker on the router side in Beryl 7, you can use the Internet while reducing the amount of communication and spam. First, connect Beryl 7 to the power supply and start.

From the Wi-Fi settings on your smartphone, select the SSID that contains the model number "GL-MT3600BE" of Beryl 7.

Enter "192.168.8.1" in your browser and access the admin panel, enter the password you decided in the initial setting and click "Login".

Tap the menu on the top right corner and open the "AdGuard Home" in the "Applications".

Enable AdGuard Home toggle switch on and click Apply. This is done.

Actually, I accessed a summary blog from the browser on other smartphones that do not have an advertisement blocker. The following shows that the banner advertisements were displayed multiple times on the screen.

Next, when I visited the same site by connecting to the SSID of Wi-Fi, which is "5G" at the end of the model number "GL-MT3600BE" of Beryl 7, some advertisements were deleted and some advertisements were also grayed out.

In addition, I started the news app, and the left is normal communication, and the right is Beryl 7. How much広告 are deleted depends on the app store’s terms and app settings, so it’s not completely deleted, but it’s very convenient to automatically make the ad blocker work on all terminals connected to the Beryl 7 line by setting up on the Beryl 7.

・USB tethering via smartphone and USB cable

There are three ways to use the internet in Beryl 7. Wi-Fi and wired connections are explained in the past article, so let’s try to make Wi-Fi with a smartphone USB tethering. First, connect your smartphone to Beryl 7.

Next, open "Tethering" from the settings of the connected smartphone.

When you turn on the toggle switch of "USB tethering", you can prepare the smartphone for tethering.

Next, open the menu on the smartphone connected to the management panel and tap "Internet".

When scrolling through the list of Internet used, there was a "Tethering" item. USB0Android'' Click Connect button.

You can now use Wi-Fi from Beryl 7. In addition, the number of smartphones can be connected at the same time is up to 5 devices for iPhone and up to 10 to 15 devices depending on the manufacturer and model for Android.

・Set up guest Wi-Fi for other people

Next, configure Wi-Fi for guests. If you use Beryl 7's Wi-Fi for others, in some cases, you may be able to view the internal servers connected with Wi-Fi. By setting the IoT device to the guest network, you can protect your IoT device even if you are using the main network. To use Wi-Fi for guests, click the "Wireless" button to open the admin panel menu.

There is a "5GHz guest Wi-Fi" tab in the item of 5GHz Wi-Fi. Turn on Enable Wi-Fi and click Change button.

Guest Wi-Fi SSID is "Guest" at the end. SSID can be changed.

You can change your password from here. After setting, click Apply.

When I actually checked the network on another smartphone, I saw a guest network with "Guest" at the end, along with the main network with "5G" and the network for the management panel connection.

・Pair Rental Control

You can also set parental controls for individual Beryl 7 Wi-Fi-connected devices that can not access certain sites or disable the internet over time. Click the "Pair Rental Control" button from the management panel menu.

Turn on the enabled toggle switch and click "Apply".

Set the device profile to control. Click "Add" button.

This time, we will set up a scenario that "I can not access YouTube during study time". If you want to "study", tap "Next".

Select the device you want to control and click Next.

Tap Add Newルール Set to set specific access rules.

After entering the rule set name, enter the domain of the site that。 access and click "Apply".

After the rule set, tap End.

Click the "Set Shape" button.

You can set the time and day of the week to the details of how to limit the time.

In addition, you can install or remove the OpenWrt package from the "P、ins" menu.

Plug-ins are listed, so you can introduce the plug-ins you want to use independently. However, you should be aware of security risks when using third-party plugins.
