AMD's next GPU generation will take some time, according to information from our sources. AMD's current RX 9000 video cards were released in early 2025, but their successors won't be released for a year at the earliest.
Tweakers spoke on the Computex exhibition floor with several manufacturers that make AMD video cards. They expressed their expectations about the introduction of the next GPU generation.
One of them expects the first AMD RDNA 5 GPUs in the second or third quarter of 2027. Another board partner thinks that is too optimistic; they are more likely to think of the end of next year, or possibly even the beginning of 2028.
AMD seems to be following the example of Nvidia. That company will also not release the next GPUs until the second half of 2027, according to previous rumors. Normally, new GPU generations are released every two years, but chip makers are now extending this to 2.5 or even three years.
It was already expected that new GPUs would take longer than normal to arrive. The market for PC components is in turmoil due to the high demand for AI chips. These consume chip production capacity and memory. As a result, PC hardware is given less priority for consumers and this is reflected in the GPU roadmaps.
