Surface Pro 13 under Snapdragon X2 Elite: the leak throws everything before June 16

Authors

We knew that the ARM version for the general public was arriving, Microsoft reserved its first 2026 models for professionals under Intel. This time, it is the reseller Roland Quandt, via WinFuture, who draws images and technical sheet of the 13-inch Surface Pro equipped with Qualcomm's Snapdragon X2 Elite. Formalization is expected on June 16, 2026, in two weeks.

Externally, nothing is moving. The leak shows the same chassis as the previous model, same wide bezels around the screen, same folding kickstand on the back to prop the tablet at different angles. The only real new thing visible is the disappearance of a color: the ARM version will only be offered in black, platinum and “Dune” (a sandy gold). The blue seems abandoned.

A Snapdragon X2 Elite, but not the most muscular

The heart of the matter is the chip. Microsoft slips the Snapdragon X2 Elite into the high-end version, more precisely the 12-core “Oryon” variant, engraved in 3 nanometers. We are talking about an ARM processor, that is to say the same architectural family as the Apple Silicon chips, renowned for its energy efficiency. On arrival: up to 32 GB of RAM and a user-replaceable PCIe 4.0 SSD, up to 1 TB. This removable SSD is rare on this type of thin machine, and it's a real point for anyone who wants to make their device last.

On the AI side, the chip announces up to 80 TOPS on its NPU part, the block dedicated to artificial intelligence calculation. To provide context: the first generation of Snapdragon X Elite capped at 45 TOPS, and the Copilot+ threshold required by Microsoft is 40 TOPS. Plenty of space to run AI functions locally without calling the cloud. Microsoft also promises 15.5 hours of local video playback, a classic argument for the ARM platform, but to be verified in real use and not in a lab video loop.

The detail that stings: no Extreme version

Small disappointment announced: this Surface Pro will not be entitled to the Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme, the fastest model in the range. However, it is he who we saw do well in the test of the Asus Zenbook A16, where he seriously shook up Intel.

The probable reason: in a chassis as thin as a tablet, heat dissipation does not follow. We therefore remain with a “standard” X2 Elite, strong but not at the top. The leak gives neither the exact price, nor the complete sheet, nor the possible cheaper versions in the more modest Snapdragon X2.

The context does not help with enthusiasm. Microsoft recently raised the prices of its entire Surface range, and the pro models under Intel unveiled in May already had steep prices. It's hard to imagine this ARM version breaking prices.
