Microsoft Announces a desktop environment for software development with artificial intelligence. After the small view of the upcoming Surface Laptop Ultra on the Computex has already given rise, Microsoft is now laying a desktop version based on the new RTX Spark from Nvidia by: Surface RTX Spark Dev Box.
‘Dream Machine for Developers’
“We have said, let’s spread this architecture to the limits and build a machine for developers,” said Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella on Wednesday evening at the opening of the developer conference build in San Francisco. “This is really a dream machine.”
The dream machine presents a short video in a black case with a grid structure. Microsoft does not yet reveal much about the internal values. “It has 1 Petaflop computing capacity for AI and has 20 CPU-Kerne as well as 128 gigabyte shared memory”, advised Nadella. The Dev Box comes with Windows 11 Pro and various pre-installed developer tools.
The Surface RTX Spark Dev Box should be available in autumn like the Surface Laptop Ultra. Further details such as possible model variants or prices are not yet available. Interested people can be registered with Microsoft on a waiting list, said Nadella.

Grep arrives at the terminal
Apart from smart hardware, Microsoft also wants to help developers work with Windows – and the transition, as Needla remarked. Over 70 classic command line tools from Linux- World like grep keep moving to the terminal. Also some applications such as Homebrew, which are macOS are available in the terminal. The terminal in Windows becomes a “intelligent terminal” with built-in copilot, says Nadella.
