More efficient, more customizable… but also more expensive. Arriving after the classic DualSense, Sony's DualSense Edge controller remains a safe bet for PS5 players, who particularly appreciate the immersive experience it offers. But we appreciate it much better when it's on sale, like right now where it's on sale for less than 180 euros.

A comfortable and customizable controller

If the format of this DualSense Edge is quite close to that of the classic DualSense, Sony has still made some changes. First, the texture on the palms and L2/R2 triggers has changed: the grip is better and overall much more comfortable. Note, however, that the DualSense Edge is heavier than its sister (335 g versus 280 g), an extra weight which fortunately reinforces the feeling of solidity. However, we approve less of the “glossy black” aesthetic for the buttons and part of the shell, which attracts fingerprints far too much.

The DualSense Edge, however, scores points on its customizable aspect. Like the Xbox Elite Series from Microsoft, it comes with a storage box containing several small accessories: different analog stick caps, a box for locking the charging cable on the controller (to play wired with as little latency as possible) and two sets of additional buttons to place under the controller (either in "levers" mode or in "half-domes" mode). Special mention for the removable stick system, an excellent point for repairability.

Like the classic DualSense, the DualSense Edge offers all the functions that enrich the experience on PS5. The microphone, the gyroscope and the speaker are integrated, as are the force feedback triggers and the haptic feedback, which allows you to feel the actions of the game more precisely (impacts, steps in the sand, rain, etc.). The game thus becomes more physical, more realistic.

From the PS5 settings, you can also configure the L2 and R2 triggers very precisely. But note that you can also, directly on the controller, adjust them to three positions, which modify the travel necessary to trigger an action. A reactive key will be much more suited to FPS, while in racing games, we will rather choose a long race to better gauge the acceleration of the car.

Finally, if the controller is fully compatible with the PS5, it is also recognized by Windows 11 as a DualSense Edge Wireless Controller gamepad, whether with a Bluetooth connection or with the USB cable. And in terms of autonomy, the DualSense Edge lasted 5h30 during our test before having to go through the charging box. We would have much preferred a more generous autonomy, especially since the DualSense Edge is heavier than the classic model, and therefore likely to contain a larger battery.
