According to information from IT House on 5 June, the British Times reported on 4 June that the British Government was proposing legislation to hold the executives of technology companies responsible for the protection of minors. If the head of the technology company could not prevent children from seeing naked pictures on their phones, the British Government would use imprisonment as a threat.
The plan, which is expected to be published next week, requires companies such as Google and Apple to prevent children from sending, receiving, viewing or sharing sensitive pictures through mobile devices. The aim of such initiatives is to prevent children from having access to any naked content on equipment, including pornographic content and sexual scenes in films.
The British Government will require technology companies to complete the adjustment within a short period of time. If science and technology companies refused to cooperate, the Government threatened to introduce laws with criminal sanctions. Those familiar with the plan stated that the sanctions would be modelled on the British Online Security Act, which provided for a maximum sentence of five years.
It was mentioned that some technology companies had introduced measures to limit pornography. Apple introduced child safety in 2022, learning to detect sensitive content in photographs and videos of “information” and FaceTime.
According to the IT House, Google has also introduced detection and blurry of sensitive pictures last year and warns children when they try to open, send or forward such images.
The British Government wants technology companies to integrate and expand these functions. The former Minister of the Interior of the country, Jess Phillips, said: “I very much hope that this policy will eventually be truly landed. In the face of the most serious problem of online child sexual abuse and humiliation, we should not be ashamed to make demands to technology companies. The technology to make these measures happen already exists. It should not take too long for businesses to quickly stop sensitive images of children from being produced.”
