The recent price increase of the PS5 does not prevent the Sony console from finding itself on sale

It’s real madness what’s happening around PlayStation consoles. Normally, with time and the prospect of a new generation, the price of a console tends to fall. The brand sometimes even offers bundles with additional games and accessories. The PlayStation 5 is taking the opposite path: with the shortage of components and inflation on the rise, the Sony console has just experienced its second price increase.

It was available when it was released at 499 euros, then increased to 549 euros in 2022 and today, since April 2, 2026, it is sold for 649 euros. However, some merchants continue to offer it at its old price, or even on promotion.

The PlayStation 5 Slim, a refined version

If you still haven't fallen for the Sony console, now might be the time, since the price continues to increase. With the Slim version offered here, you may not have the all-powerfulness of the PS5 Pro, but you have a lighter and more compact version than the classic PlayStation 5. It measures 358 x 96 x 216 mm for 3.2 kg, where its big sister measures 390 x 104 x 260 mm for 4.5 kg. It is differentiated by its shell which has a distinctive black groove because in fact, on this model, the Blu-ray drive is removable.

As a result, the shell separates in two and you can then remove the disk drive. Besides, if you opt for the digital version of this offer, you can add the reader if you buy it later and in the box you will have the part of the facade to install on top, it's well thought out. With the pack, you also have the famous DualSense controller which allows you to play all the titles you own and future acquisitions.

A console that makes progress everywhere

The PS5 Slim doesn't just go on a diet, it brings a nice batch of improvements. With, for example, the presence, on the front, of two USB-C ports, where the old one had a USB-C port and a USB-A port. The rear is similar with two USB-A, an HDMI and the Ethernet port. On the other hand, the cooling has been optimized with a reworked fan, which makes the console more discreet in terms of noise.

Even the storage is improved, with 1 TB gross made up of 822 GB usable, a gain of 158 GB net. When we know that the original console only offered 667 GB, we can only appreciate it. Even if that won't prevent you from adding a second SSD under this famous removable front, in the dedicated space, to really have plenty of room to install your PS5 and even PS4 games, since the console is backwards compatible.
