According to information from IT House on 3 June, according to Japanese economic news on 1 June, Japanese auto manufacturers and parts producers, including Toyota Motors, are developing a unified spare parts determination policy.
Even if an individual company determines that a component is defective, it will continue to be used as long as it does not comply with the harmonized policy. This is intended to ensure a stable supply of spare parts in Japan, especially in the context of the difficulties in the procurement of raw materials caused by the crisis in the Middle East.
This unified policy will be developed jointly by JAMA and JAFA. The IT House enquired that JAMA included eight manufacturers of motor vehicles, Toyota, Honda and others, as well as truck and bus manufacturers; JAFA consisted of approximately 450 manufacturers of spare parts.
Following the implementation of the unified policy, the spare parts manufacturer will no longer judge itself as bad, even if fully functional, for minor defects that do not affect the performance of the vehicle as a whole (e.g. black spots, small scratch marks). As long as national standards are met and there are no significant problems with functioning and appearance, the entire plant will accept the spare parts.
In the case of car-borne electronic tethered plastics plugins, for example, about 60 per cent of the poor determination was due to the existence of black spots, and the unified standards projected a reduction of 10,000 waste items per month in Japan. The new norms will also allow for the testing of spare parts with harmless stabbings, and will shorten the time for the examination of the mass.
Toyota has set up a special unit to evaluate spare parts on a uniform basis and to hold periodic joint evaluation meetings with other day-care companies and suppliers.
