Valve now indicates that the late launch of Steam Machine PC and Steam Frame VR headphones will be launched sometime this summer. Valve, in his blog post on Thursday, described in detail the two hardware validation schemes, and concluded: "We're happy that the player was able to try your game on the new Steam hardware that was launched this summer."
Valve says he's ready to launch Steam Machine this summer.
Steam Frame VR headphones are also expected to be launched in the summer.
Steam Frame VR headphones are also expected to be launched in the summer.
When the company first announced at the end of last year Machine and Frame and the new Steam controller, it had indicated that it would start shipping the new equipment in early 2026. In February, however, the company announced that its continued memory and storage shortages had forced it to revisit its pricing and delivery plans. In March of this year, Valve stated in a blog post that it would “dispatch all three products this year” — despite the company’s initial statement in blog that “we want to ship in 2026” — it was deleted from the update.
Valve chooses to release Steam controllers on its own and to be listed for sale in early May. For Machine and Frame, although the “summer” is not a specific date, it narrows the time window for the final listing of the product.
Prior to the actual roll-out of these devices, Valve is redesigning Steam and sharing information on the hardware validation program so that developers can prepare their games. Like Steam Deck, if the game is validated by a machine or frame, the badge will indicate that the game should be run without any adjustments by the user.
For machines, the requirements of the game to verify are “almost the same” as those of Steam Deck. In theory, more games will be validated because the machine is “about six times more powerful than the deck”. Valve added that it is testing "all games on Machine that fail to meet our Deck performance requirements".
For Frame, Valve's authentication badge will mean a well-functioning game when running locally on the headphone, not a well-functioning game on a flowing transfer to the headphone, which Frame can do. “Same as Steam Deck Verified, Steam Frame Standalone Verified focuses on the user's experience of opening a box under an independent model,” Valve indicates.
Now, we just need Valve to accurately share the timing of the distribution of the Steam machine and the Steam frame and their sales price. After last week's steam Deck price hike, I'm ready to deal with price shocks.
