Valve: Steam Machine and Steam Frame VR glasses coming this summer

Authors

Valve says its compact gaming PC Steam Machine and VR glasses Steam Frame should be released this summer. Initially, the manufacturer indicated that they would be released 'early' 2026, but that was later extended to 2026.

Valve announced the release window in a blog post about the Verified program for the Steam Machine and Steam Frame. The company reports that they will "both be released this summer." That would mean that they will be released no later than September 23.

Valve initially said its hardware would be released in early 2026, but stopped short of providing a specific release date due to current memory and storage shortages. The deadline was then extended to 'the first half of 2026'. In March, Valve only said that it wants to release the products 'this year'. It is still not clear how expensive the devices will be.

Can't wait?

If you don't feel like waiting for the release of the Steam Machine, you can also build one yourself. Tweakers has written an extensive how-to on how to assemble a Steam Machine yourself.

The blog post states that the Verified program will be expanded to the Steam Machine and Steam Frame. Games can receive a Verified badge if they support the devices natively. The requirements to be Steam Machine Verified are largely the same as those of the Steam Deck, according to Valve. For example, games must be playable with a controller and the default settings must ensure good performance. The Steam Frame requires, among other things, that texts are clearly legible on the screen of the VR glasses and that games work well with the Steam Frame controllers from the start.
