News from IT House, 3 June, NeoWin today, 3 June, published an article on the first steady release of the Vim Cassic editor, 8.3.0, completely offline. LLM Generates the code.
The development team, in order to avoid the long-term maintenance pressure of Vim9 Script, chose to build on Vim version 8.2.0148, thus envisaging the construction of a "Vim 8.3 without Vim9 Script".
The Vim Classic team indicated that this would make the coding library simpler and more suitable for the maintenance of a branch with limited resources, but at the cost of some of the modern Vim plugins not being used properly on Vim Classic.
In terms of security, the Vim Classic team stated that it had specifically assessed security patches from upstream Vim to cover known loopholes. However, the team also reminded early users that Bug might still be hidden in the system, and that it was therefore more suitable for users willing to accept the risks of compatibility and stability.
The project was sponsored by Drew DeVault, who published a blog on 25 March 2026, in which he strongly objected to the generation of AI, arguing that it would benefit a few, centralize power, expand propaganda and create low-quality AI content.
