The 3 best electric sedans on Frandroid

The automobile market in general is now dominated by SUVs and city cars. Sedans, somewhat neglected, nevertheless have real arguments to put forward to place themselves among the best electric cars on the market. These models offer interesting versatility, allowing you to tackle urban areas as well as the great outdoors. They even remain comfortable enough for a family of 5 people.

Our team tested the most popular electric sedan models in 2026. Here are the ones we liked best and recommend.

This iteration of the Tesla Model 3 Propulsion remains within the manufacturer's standards for exterior design. Inside the cabin, the atmosphere is preserved with careful details and space for passengers.

In terms of performance, this version of the range is the most sober that we have tested. We noted consumption at 13.7 kWh/100 km despite special conditions. This makes it possible to reach the 537 km of WLTP autonomy announced by the manufacturer. Charging from 10 to 80% takes place around 30 minutes.

As for driving the vehicle, 0 to 100 km/h is achieved in 6.2 seconds. In town, the turning radius makes the Model 3 Propulsion a little too clumsy. The car remains pleasant and comfortable to drive, especially on the highway.

In terms of price, it is the most accessible Tesla in the catalog with a price of 36,990 euros. This price includes some interesting options such as Autopilot, the connected screen or the heat pump. Our test of the Tesla Model 3 Propulsion is available on Frandroid.

The all-new version of the BMW i5 takes up the strengths of the previous version, starting with a high-quality design. On the exterior construction, it looks like a BMW car even if the finishes make it a slightly less sporty electric sedan than usual. It is above all the habitability of the i5 which is attractive since it gives pride of place to comfort so that passengers can stay for a long time.

As is often the case with BMW, the ride quality on the electric car is particularly good. Despite its slightly long dimensions, it offers very dynamic behavior on the tightest turns and the smallest roads. Depending on the mode used, it is even possible to emphasize comfort. During our test, the BMW i5 stood out for its versatility.

The services in place on the electric car are also of a high level. The minimum range announced on the i5 is 516 km despite rather high consumption. It is especially at the level of the charge offered that the model stands out. On a dedicated terminal, it is possible to go from 10 to 80% in 30 minutes maximum.

There remains one problem, the electric car, in its basic version, is offered at 76,200 euros without options. The bill increases very quickly as options are added. It's still a great electric car if you're willing to pay the price. Our review of the BMW i5 is available to read.

On the electric car market, the Volkswagen ID.7 is the German manufacturer's representative in the sedan segment. This starts with a very nice space on board the car for each passenger.

In terms of performance, the car has a 77 kWh battery offering a WLTP range of 615 km. As for recharging, the transition from 20 to 80% is done in 28 minutes. Good performance coupled with good energy consumption.

Driving the electric sedan offers rather calm sensations. On the other hand, it will be necessary to accommodate the imposing dimensions of the car for the urban environment. The Volkswagen ID.7 is a rather quiet electric sedan for the driver.

Regarding the displayed price of the electric Volkswagen, it starts at 62,650 euros. All without eligibility for the ecological bonus of course. Our review of the Volkswagen ID.7 is available to read.

This Mercedes-Benz CLA is a well-born electric sedan with a slender exterior profile while the interior is comfortable. Only rear passengers may feel a little too tight.

The electric car shines above all with its performance. An 85 kWh battery is in place with a WLTP range of 792 km. In terms of recharging, 10 to 80% is done in 10 minutes to recover 325 km. It is possible to have a smaller battery capacity.

Driving is surprising with approval delivering a power of 200 kW allowing you to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds. On the road, this Mercedes CLA is dynamic while remaining comfortable.

We regret that the price of options is exploding a little too quickly. This starts at 52,900 euros but can climb a little too quickly. Our test of the Mercedes CLA is available on Frandroid.

Electric sedans at an affordable price are the cars offering the most interest to the general public. The MG4, with its performance/price ratio, is one of the essential models in its sector.

In its exterior appearance, some aspects of the SUV are notable, even if the car remains a compact sedan considering its dimensions. The interior is very sober, particularly on the dashboard, while the finishes are quite irregular depending on the materials. For passengers, remember that there is enough legroom.

For the basic version, the battery at 51 kWh with a charge of 10 to 80% achieved in 35 minutes. During our test, we also noted a consumption of 18.3 kWh/100 km for a theoretical range of 360 kilometers. Driving is remarkably agile and comfortable, even if the absence of a route planner remains detrimental.

The advantage of this car is its entry price displayed at 28,990 euros. Despite the fact that it is not eligible for the ecological bonus, the MG4 remains a model of choice as confirmed by our test of the electric car.

The electric sedan market is increasingly competitive with attractive models. The Renault Mégane E-Tech marks a significant advance for the diamond brand in electric cars.

Inside the passenger compartment, the dashboard is complete. The manufacturing quality is astonishing as everything is impeccable. In the back, there is enough space for two adults with legroom. The 389-liter trunk is also more than sufficient.

In terms of performance, both versions integrate 40 or 60 kWh batteries. We were entitled to the latter with a 220 horsepower engine. Our measurements made it possible to detect rather controlled consumption. The WLTP range is 450 kilometers depending on the roughness of the road. Charging is efficient thanks to integrated technologies.

As for the price, the base price starts at 35,200 euros while being eligible for the ecological bonus. Our test of the Renault Mégane E-Tech is available to read.

Little known in our region, Cupra is a Volkswagen group brand launched in 2018. This affiliation allows it to draw from the manufacturer's technological catalog. Something it has not done without since we find the same chassis as that of the very good Volkwagen ID.3.

However, it adopts a more modern and sporty look than its cousin, with the added bonus of 6 cm more length. The interior is improved, with a more refined finish and a large central screen. The interior is spacious, although fitting 5 people will require packing down a bit. The trunk is average for the category.

Although it offers performance that is strictly identical to that of the ID.3, the Born is on the other hand a little more nervous to drive, even if it remains very comfortable in all situations. In terms of autonomy, allow 340, 420 or 540 km depending on the capacity of the battery chosen. Enough to make her more than capable of going on a weekend away from home.

Price-wise, it starts at 35,000 euros, a little more than the ID.3, a difference which for us is justified in view of the improved finishes and generally more advanced technologies that it carries. We tell you more in our test of the Cupra Born.

Hyundai returns to the forefront with a new sedan model, the Ioniq 6. It has very classic dimensions for a sedan, but stands out with a particularly crafted look with futuristic accents, which will not leave you indifferent. The lines of the car have also been designed to offer maximum aerodynamics, and therefore lower consumption. Bet successful.

Despite its generous dimensions, we will regret the small size of the rear trunk: only 401 liters. For a sedan, that's not much. Fortunately, the Ioniq 6 compensates for a large number of advantages, including good habitability, as well as devilishly effective soundproofing. It is also not left out when it comes to driving aids: lane keeping, overtaking range, parking assistance, etc. Driving that will be both lively and comfortable.

But it is particularly in terms of autonomy, as well as recharging, that the Hyundai sedan stands out. With 614 km of WLTP range, it ranks among the best. To top it off, it offers an ultra-fast charge from 10 to 80% achieved in 18 minutes. You should not rely on the Tesla Supercharger network with which it is not compatible.

Finally, last weak points to take into account: its weak Infotainment system (but which will undoubtedly evolve in the future) as well as a fairly unreliable route planner.

The fact remains that with an opening price of 52,200 euros, the Ioniq 6 offers a very impressive quality/price ratio. Read our review of the Hyundai Ioniq 6 on Frandroid to find out everything about this model.

How to choose an electric sedan? Our criteria

What are the conditions and amount of the ecological bonus?

- Condition: The vehicle must be new (never registered, whether in France or abroad).

- Purchase price: Less than or equal to €47,000 including tax (options included).

- Weight: The mass in running order must be less than 2.4 tonnes (2,400 kg).

- Environmental eco-score: The vehicle must achieve a minimum score of 60 points (calculated by ADEME according to the carbon footprint of its manufacturing and transport). Vehicles produced in factories with a high carbon footprint (particularly in Asia) are generally excluded.

- Battery capacity: Minimum 15 kWh.

- If purchased, you must keep the vehicle for at least 2 years before you can resell it.

This assistance is indexed to the Reference Tax Income per share of your household:

| Household Profile | RFR per unit | Amount of the basic premium |

| Precarious households | – from €16,300 | €5,700 |

| Modest households | Between €16,301 and €26,300 | €4,700 |

What is the difference between a sedan, a city car and an SUV?

The sedan segment is quite popular for its versatility. This type of vehicle is perfect for long journeys, unlike city cars. In town, sedans are also very comfortable, which SUVs lack. It is accepted that a vehicle in this category offers a length between 4.10 and 4.60 meters but some manufacturers like Mercedes play with these limits to enter the segment.

How to install a charging station at home?

If you use an electric car every day, installing a home charging station will probably be necessary. Public terminals exist, but they are still few in number. For greater comfort, installing a reinforced socket or a Wallbox can be a wise choice.

Whether you are an owner (and even in co-ownership) or a tenant, several solutions exist. And since we love to help you, we have a complete file on the subject explaining how to install an electric car charging station at home.
