WiiM's first soundbar features a touchscreen display and Dolby Atmos.
The $479 WiiM Bar launches next month.
There are a lot of options for Dolby Atmos soundbars these days, but WiiM is hoping that one specific element of its 3.0.2-channel, eight-driver soundbar will grab the public's attention. The key differentiator is the soundbar's touchscreen display, mounted right in the center of the front panel.
A circular, glass-covered 2.1-inch display on the front of the WiiM Bar provides playback controls, source switching, EQ, audio presets, and customization options. You can also see album art on the display when listening to music, and there are controls on the top panel of the speaker if you want a more "traditional" interaction with the device. Additional settings and playback options are available in the WiiM Home app. Here you can stream audio from more than 20 services, with the ability to cast directly to your speakers through Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Qobuz Connect, Google Cast, and more.
Inside the WiiM Bar, a front-facing midwoofer and tweeter combine with a full-range height driver and four passive radiators to power the sound. Dolby Atmos and DTS:X are planned, and the soundbar's basic 3.0.2 configuration can be expanded to a full 5.1.2 surround sound setup using additional speakers or subwoofers from the WiiM catalog. RoomFit calibration is also built in, automatically measuring your space and adjusting audio output as needed. Additional features include Clear Voice Mode for improved dialogue and Night Mode to reduce loud sounds without affecting voice quality.
The WiiM Bar is currently available for pre-order on the company's website for $479 ahead of its general release in July.
