You have Xiaomi, you can breathe a sigh of relief. Sending files just got better

Google's Pixel 10 series smartphones were the first to break down the walls of Apple's garden by introducing AirDrop support via the Quick Share function. Soon after, Google was joined by other companies such as Samsung, Oppo, Vivo, Nothing and Honor, which announced the introduction of compatibility on their smartphones. Now Xiaomi joins this merry band, announcing that the new HyperOS 3 update will provide AirDrop support via Quick Share.

Xiaomi HyperOS 3 will introduce AirDrop support

The manufacturer informed via website

The new feature allows you to transfer files between Android devices and Apple devices without having to install additional applications. Data is exchanged using AirDrop, provided that the iPhone user sets the function's visibility to "everyone for 10 minutes". Only then can the Android device detect the recipient and start the transfer.

Xiaomi is not the first company to decide to take such a step. Previously, Google and Samsung had already announced compatibility with AirDrop, and then also Oppo, Vivo, Nothing and Honor. The list of supported devices is systematically expanding, although support does not apply to all models. For example, some older smartphones are not compatible with the new function.

AirDrop on Android - the impossible has become possible

For years, transferring files between iPhones and Android smartphones has been one of the most cumbersome parts of using devices in both ecosystems. AirDrop remained a solution reserved for Apple devices, while Android users had to use alternative methods of data exchange.

The breakthrough came from Google, which at the end of November last year officially announced that it had managed to develop a way to communicate between Apple's AirDrop and Android's QuickShare. The announcement stunned the world, especially since the option was developed by Google itself - Apple had no hand in it.

AirDrop relies on the proprietary AWDL protocol, which means that future Apple changes to the protocol may prevent further communication between AirDrop and QuickShare. However, so far Apple has not done anything that could affect the functionality, so for now Android enthusiasts can sleep peacefully.
