You walk onto the beach and there are windmills. We weren't supposed to see them, but it turned out as usual

So far, windmills on land have aroused opposition from local communities. They were disturbed by their proximity, alleged noises, health effects and the fact that they disturbed a well-known landscape. Now structures located far from the shore are becoming a problem, but not so far away that they cannot be noticed.

- It would be better if windmills were invisible - says Agnieszka Derba, mayor of Łeba, in an interview with Radio Gdańsk.

As the politician points out, there were earlier assurances that offshore windmills would be invisible from land. Meanwhile, the mayor argues that "in the meantime, the power of the installation and its height have increased."

Owners of seaside resorts also pay attention to windmills that potentially discourage tourists. In an interview with the radio station, one of the owners of the guesthouse believes that people come to the Baltic Sea "because of the unique landscape, wide beaches and beautiful views." Now the panorama will be disturbed by new elements - i.e. working windmills.

"Some tourists will definitely choose a different, more eye-friendly landscape," fears the guesthouse hostess.

Maciej Stryjecki, president of Baltic Power, responds to similar concerns in an interview with Radio Gdańsk. In his opinion, tourists will be happy to see something new and unique in sight. Especially since Łeba is the only place in Poland where windmills can be seen on the horizon in good weather - he points out.

Moreover, windmills can be observed from a distance, but also from a closer distance

Stryjecki gave the example of Sweden, where special trips to the vicinity of sea turbines are organized. Theoretically, Łeba will gain a new tourist attraction if there are people willing to take tourists on such trips.

Representatives of Baltic Power reassure us that windmills are only visible in the summer season, and when the air transparency is good. During the rest of the year, the turbines will not be visible. So if someone misses the old views, they should come to Łeba at other times of the year.

I understand the concerns and possible longing for the old sea landscape, but... did we actually have the opportunity to observe one? And the one painted by human hands can also be intriguing. Whenever I am in Gdańsk, I am captivated by the sight of the lights of ships waiting to enter the port. You can see the dark sea and tiny dots in the distance. The image is even more mysterious, dark and fascinating.

Residents of tourist destinations were already afraid that technology would drive away visitors

Similar concerns were directed towards 5G masts. Wrong.

In turn, windmills were accused of lowering the value of plots because of their proximity, which also turned out to be untrue. So if people can live near turbines, maybe they won't be surprised to see windmills sticking out of the sea?
